Seven Goats for Christmas
Some gifts arrive wrapped in paper.
Others arrive on hooves.
This Christmas, we added seven goats to Sticks and Stones Farm.
They came with soft noses, curious eyes, and an immediate sense of belonging…as if they had always been meant to be here. Seven new personalities, seven new rhythms, seven reminders that life on the farm has a way of expanding in unexpected and joyful directions.
Goats are steady, observant creatures. They approach the world with both confidence and curiosity, testing their footing, pausing to consider, then stepping forward anyway. In many ways, they feel like perfect companions for this season of the farm, reminding us to move deliberately, stay present, and trust the balance beneath our feet.
Their arrival wasn’t about productivity or plans. It was about delight. About choosing something that brings laughter into the coldest, darkest part of the year. About welcoming life that makes the days louder, warmer, and a little more unpredictable.
As stewards of this land, we’re learning that growth doesn’t always come through grand gestures. Sometimes it shows up as seven small bells in the distance, a trail of hoofprints in the frost, and the quiet understanding that this place is meant to be lived in…fully, joyfully, together.
This Christmas, our farm grew by seven hearts.
And somehow, that feels exactly right.
